Blame It On The Lord first released March 2025. Lord Ra production is unique in its own right, but beneath the vocals of DMonkz it shines under a whole new light. The project kicks off with the Faux Real intro that feels very Arizona.
Track two, titled Pharaohs Pride, sounds like wandering through a desert for 40 days and nights. The production is reminiscent of The Alchemist with frequent choir sample chops and drum-less sections helping Monkz already unique vocal cadences and tone stand out.
The way St Dismas begins with a sample that goes “sisters and brothers and all of my” with Monkz immediately saying “Loved Ones” had me hype. The overall sample usage in this one is superb. It sounds futuristic and old school at the same time. Jonah sounds just as much a prayer as it does a song. Even the interlude is full of bars that are worthy of an instagram caption or full on lyric breakdown.
“Exotic habits, I gotta have it, living backwards, obsessed with static in a dogmatic fashion” – DMonkz on False Gods (Interlude)
King Jehu sounds just as rugged and sharp as it does vulnerable and honest. The production is minimal drums with piano and a chopped vocal sample that really just lets Monkz have full control over the beat.
”I get my supervision from above, so if you in my eye sights blame it on the Lord” – DMonkz on King Jehu
Possibly my favorite track on the album, the sample on The 4th Seal sounds like I am approaching an ancient tomb with ill intent. Monkz chooses to go straight bars here rather than add a hook which only adds to its replay-ability.
Overall an incredible project from these two, can’t wait to see what they bring to the table next.
