The Slator Blacc Interview

I had the pleasure of asking Slator Blacc some questions about his creative process and early musical beginnings. He has some music out, most recently his single Troubling Times along with the B-side to his incredible project “Black Foot Ronin.

Who are you (for those who don’t know yet)?

I am Slator Blacc from the westside of Phoenix. I’m an artist, black business owner of LGDA Records (Live Great Die Awesome).

Which artists inspired you to start creating music?

In all honesty there weren’t any artists that inspired me to create music in particular but there were definitely moments in time that did.

Tell me more about those, when did you first start recording, and why?

The first time was in my people’s bedroom in San Bernardino, CA on fruity loops. I had to be 12 then too. I recorded two freestyles to Birdman & Lil Wayne’s “Pop Bottles” beat and made my first dougie song. After that I told myself “this is what I wanna do.”

What was the process behind the creation of Siegel Sweets? Do you have any other tracks produced by NC? That was one of my favorite tracks on the project.

I never actually met bro before, he was someone I found surfing the net and we began sending each other stuff back and forth. I was actually living at the Siegel Suites at the time during the making of that record so when I heard it I instantly knew what to talk about. But that’s my guy though. Shout NC from Indiana.

Do you ever experiment with making beats? Also, what are your hobbies outside of music?

See my relationship with beat making is that I still need to master the art of patience. I’m just not patient enough to take it serious yet. I wanna learn though, eventually. 2020 goal. Outside of music I go skate, workout. I spend a lot of time by myself too. But I’m looking into getting in wine tasting very soon. Tryna see what that’s about.

Troubling times seems like a message, can you detail what you this song means to you?

It is. It’s a message directly to the people who listen to Slator Blacc and have been following the journey. They’re who I’m talking to, we’re all having these thoughts and questions about what our next move in this life is so I’d figured why not bring that into conversation you know? Those thoughts of feeling like you put your all into something and there hasn’t been any reciprocation, that’ll take a toll on your mental but still knowing things are going to fall into place. The record was a testament of where I was and where I’m tryna go with all of this far as what we’re trying to really accomplish and that’s ultimate freedom regardless of how troubling times may be.

What are your plans for the rest of 2019 going into 2020?

Just being more consistent. I know that’s something I wanna provide more to my fans. I’m also working on a project series called Bungaloo. There’ll be two installments. Also just establishing the Live Great brand. A lot is going to be happening in 2020.
