One of the most undeniable duos in Phoenix is Unorthodocks and Solute. Dropping 3 projects in less than 3 months in 2024 with superb wordplay and top notch production is something a lot of signed mainstream artists with big budgets can’t do at this level. The caliber of gritty hip-hop, RnB cuts, and all around artistry produced from the team over at Rarified Air is consistently very high, with their latest features on ARNAM’s album, Arnam Palmer getting major play in my Apple Music rotation.
The first iteration of the Flyest In The League series dropped in 2021. There are so many quotables from each artist on each project I encourage you to tune in fully with your neighborhood high quality listening device.
The second addition to the Flyest In The League series is fantastic, evolving upon the originals wordplay with production coming mostly from Say10. The verse from Docks’ on Meditative Spirit was the first one I heard when I saw the promo for the music video, and I immediately knew the lyricism from this guy was on another level. Paired with the verse from Solute this is a lethal combo on the mic.
I’m mentally and physically in this bitch to win this.
Solute on Meditative Spirit
ELITE 8 is chocked full of sample flips and dense lyricism. The sequel to Melo with the Braids is a high point for me, Docks sits perfectly his own pocket flow-wise. This project is also filled with superb features from artists I never heard of before listening. Carcell, Lord Juco, Kwaj, and Maze Overlay all carried their weight and kept up to pace.
Now I need them all-star bucks like baristas.
Unorthodocks on Hoop Dreams
March Madness: Final Four, has two Docks’ verses and 3 from Solute. My personal favorite from this one is Suicides in the Park. Soon as Docks starts rapping bro does not let up on the flow.
